A Silken Thread by Kim Vogel Sawyer

I received an unedited proof edition of this book through NetGalley because I asked to read and review it. This is my unbiased review.

I liked this book, it is a historical Christian fiction book. Even though it was not a final copy, the editing was very well done. I cannot remember an error at all.

The characters were well defined and realistic. The plot flowed well. It was well written, but for me, it was not an "I cannot put this down" type of book. It did not keep me glued to the pages and I would not likely re-read this book.

The plot revolves around the south just after the Civil war. It shows, probably in a kinder way, the feelings of the whites against the blacks. It also deals with the basic honest or dishonesty as the case was of people in general. It showed how a Christian should act and did bring in God but it was not preachy at all.

I have read and enjoyed other books by Kim Vogel Sawyer, but this doesn't live up to the others. I think if you want a light read, you will enjoy the book. I rated it 4 stars out of 5.

The Making of Mrs. Hale by Carolyn Miller

This is a Regency romance type of book. It is a Christian book but not at all preachy. You can see God's hand throughout the book, though. The story has a bit of a twist from other novels of this type. I will not give it away, but I found it quite interesting. It switched back and forth between the two main characters but in a smooth fashion.

The story flowed well. The characters were quite well developed, at least the main characters and the mother. The editing was also done well.

I asked to read and review this book through Netgalley..com. Yes, I was given an ebook with no charge. No, I was not required to leave a review. I do recommend you read this book, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Jerusalem's Queen by Angela Hunt

I have always enjoyed books by Angela Hunt and this is no exception. She did a wonderful job of portraying this queen.

I asked to read and review this book through Netgalley and was given an advanced reader's ebook to do so. Even though it was not fully edited, There were so few errors, I'm not even sure there were any at all. It was very well done.

The story was well researched and the characters were totally believable. The story flowed well and left me wanting more but not feeling like it was ended too soon.

I recommend this book and give it 5 stars out of 5.

Of Fire and Lions by Mesu Andrews

This is the second book written by Mesu Andrews that I have read. I was not disappointed.

It is a fictionalization of the life of Daniel. The story does not stray from the Bible, but it does add to it and makes it into a very interesting story. Of course, it is a Christian book, but it is not preachy at all. It shows God's love and supremacy in all things.

The main characters were very well developed while the supporting characters were well defined. The story flowed well and kept my interest all the way through.

The book was requested and given through Netgalley. It was an unedited proof. With that being said, the editing was very well done. Very little to improve.

I give this a 5-star rating. The review is my own, freely given.

My Heart Belongs in Gettysburg

I was so wanting to love this book. I enjoy historical novels. For the most part, I liked the story, but it was twice as long as necessary.

The story was well researched with a lot of interesting details about the underground railway, BUT, Clarissa did too much talking to herself. Her reminiscing was like re-reading the book. I did not enjoy this and started to skip a lot of that.

Other than that, the characters were fairly well developed. The story covered a few years of time and sometimes flowed well and at other times seemed to drag.

I give this a 3-star rating because of it being too wordy. I asked to read and review this book through NetGalley.

A Williamsburg Christmas

Once again, Anne Greene has created a great novella. The story is a good, clean read. It is a Christian book, but not pushy or preachy in any way.

The main characters are quite well developed for such a short story. The story flows well and moves along nicely.

There were a couple of editing issues but nothing that interfered with the enjoyment of the book.

I was given a copy of this book and chose to review it of my own free will. The review is totally my own opinion. I totally would recommend this book to anyone.

Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan

I was very intrigued by the title and looked forward to reading this book. The story itself was interesting but the book was not to my taste at all. I did enjoy the ending the most, the story was less rambling then.

First, as a Christian book, there was swearing, drinking to excess, sex all inappropriate. Second, the story was too rambling. It was done in the first person with a lot of her letters and thoughts without much action. It also jumped years and you didn't realize it immediately. I skipped a lot of pages and did not feel like I missed anything. The story could have been told in about half the pages it is now. Third, it needs editing. This will be addressed in the final version I hope as I read an ARC version. Last, and this is more on a personal side, I did not see true conversion in Joy until the very end though she claims to have been saved/converted years before but her behavior is not that of a Christian in my view.

I give this 2 stars as some may enjoy the book, I did not. I would not recommend this to my friends.

In full disclosure, I was given an ARC version of the book upon my request to read and review. The review is totally my own opinion.

The Light Before Day by Suzanne Woods Fischer

TheThe Light Before Day
This book is really hard for me to review. The story was good and so are the characters. I enjoyed reading the first 2 books in this series and this book continues in the same way. It is well written and researched. You get a real feel for the time period.
I did not like the ending, and I will leave it at that. I do not want to give anything away. I also find it hard to list this as a Christian book. I knew I didn't agree with the Quaker religion, but I did not realize until more of their beliefs were told in this book, how far off the mark they are.  These two reasons are why I gave this book only a 3-star rating.

I requested to read and review this book through Netgalley. The review is totally my own and freely given.

Legacy of Mercy by Lynn Austin

requested to read and review this book through Netgalley. The review is my own and freely given.

I have never been disappointed with a Jane Austin novel, and the record holds. Even though this is the second book in the series, it is good as a stand-alone book also.

The characters are very well developed and the story flows very well. The book is written in sections of each character telling their part of the story. It makes the story flow well.

I read an advanced reader copy but even though it wasn't final edition, the editing and grammar were excellent. A poorly edited book can ruin a great story. This is great as both a story and editing. You will not be disappointed.

If you like non-preachy, Christian stories set back in time, you will truly enjoy this book. I give it 5 stars out of 5.

In Times Gone By by Tracie Peterson

First, I requested this book to read and review. I was given an advanced reader's copy and the review is my own and freely given.

I liked this series, this is the 3rd book, but was a little underwhelmed with this book. The characters are well developed but since this was supposed to be mostly about Kenzie, I felt it lacked in fulfilling that goal. I feel like this because there was a lot of the story involving Victoria, from the second book and she could have easily been given a lot less time. I also felt that if that much space was given to her, the ending of her part was lacking.

Overall, I felt the story flowed well. The plot was interesting and I would recommend this series to my friends. Since it was not a final text book, it is hard to comment on the grammar though there were places I hoped will be fixed in the final version. Not many, but a few. I also appreciate that this is truly a Christian book. Tracie Peterson does a very good job at showing what a true Christian should be like and not being preachy. I give this 4 stars out of 5.

All My Books

Today I am not doing a book review but a review of a book organizing program. The program is called All My Books.  We use this program at church to catalog all the things in our library.

I am new to working in the library as of this year. I have only done cataloging the old-fashioned way. That way is a lot of work. This program is great. I put in the information I want to add. It puts it in properly for me. I do not have to worry about putting the author's last name first, etc. It also dates when I put the book into the computer program. This is a great help for the end of the year report I will have to prepare.

I have just started to "play around" with the program to see what it can do. I am impressed. I would recommend this program to anyone looking for a good way to organize All their Books. :) Check them out with the link below.

Wait for Me by Susan May Warren

This is the last book in the Montana Rescue Series. This book is centered around Jess and Pete. They are also in other books in the series but as in the other books, the story revolves around 2 main characters, Jess and Pete. The characters are fairly well developed and interesting.

I have not read all the books in the series but I have read a few of them. They are interesting and full of drama. They tell different things about rescuers and first defense people and the jobs they do. This book does the same but has a little more suspense than some of the others.

What I did not like so much about this book is that there seemed to be a lot of things repeated not just from other books but things in this book itself seemed to be repeated. I skipped several paragraphs at a time and do not feel like I missed out on anything.

The book I received was not final copy so it's hard to comment on the editing, but I can tell you I that this version still needs some work, though not much at all.

I am writing this review is my own personal opinion. I was given an advanced readers copy, free of charge with no expectations.

I rate the book 4 stars out of 5.
